These are oval plate(colander) with handle woven from Suzu bamboo.
Since the finish of the same oval colander varies depending on the maker,
we introduce them separately as Type A, Type B, and so on.


This page introduces the B-type.


※ The effects of material dieback, which has been continuing since 2015, are becoming more severe,

Type B is available in three sizes: small, medium, and large.
There are individual differences, and depending on what you receive, the difference may be 1 to 2 cm.




All sizes have the same weaving method and rim construction.


Occasionally, the color of the bamboo may appear purple or blackish in some areas. This is a natural coloring caused by the peeling of the skin and exposure to ultraviolet rays. This is not a problem when using the product.






The oval shape has handles on both ends like this.


It can be carried by holding both ends or hooked onto an S-shaped hook for storage.










This is small size.


It is large enough to hold one serving of noodles.


This is medium size.


It is large enough to hold 1 to 3 servings of noodles.


This is large size.


It is large enough to hold 2 to 4 servings of noodles.


Type B is shorter in width, longer in depth, and rounder in shape than the other types.


It can be used in noodles, breads, and sweets.


This is a medium size with about 100g of somen noodles on top.


With about 200g of udon noodles on top.




Medium size with 4 slices of baguette on top for breakfast.


It can be used as a noodle colander, as a plate with bread or rice balls on it, or even served on the table with sweets.

It has many uses, both as a colander and as a plate.




Suzu bamboo is characterized by the glossy luster of its outer skin, its soft and elastic texture, and its durability.
The yellow color gradually changes to an amber color as it ages.


It is such an excellent material that even after it has been used and turned amber color,
the outer skin becomes shiny when washed in water.


With its distinctive shape, this plate is easy to use and comfortable in the hand for long-lasting enjoyment.

Suzu bamboo crafts have been made with this bamboo for more than 1,000 years.


However, since around 2015, Suzu bamboo has been dying all over Iwate Prefecture for several years. 
Suzu bamboo crafts are now more precious than ever, 
as it has become more and more difficult to gather high-quality Suzu bamboo for use as material.


Suzu bamboo is said to die after blooming small yellow flowers when it reaches the end of its life span, and after the bamboo withers, 
which is said to occur once every 120 years. 
It is said to take 10 to 20 years for the young shoots to grow tall enough to be used for bamboo crafts.


This was an inexperienced situation even for the makers
who have been involved in Suzu bamboo crafts for many years. 
Nevertheless, they have continued their traditional crafts by carefully walking in the mountains 
and using only a tenth of the amount of Suzu bamboo that is normally harvested.
