This basket, named “Cutlery Basket,” is made from green bamboo and Tsudura-fuji vines. We introduce two types here: no handle and one handle.
Green bamboo refers to Madake bamboo freshly cut while still retaining its natural green color. This basket is woven with strips of green bamboo whose outer skin has been shaved thin. Shaving the skin reduces the appearance of scratches or spots on the surface, while adding luster and enhancing its beauty. Over time, it gradually changes into a warm amber color, evenly and beautifully.
The rim and handles are bound with Tsudura-fuji vines, adding an accent to the finish.
The entire basket is woven carefully and with strength. Using the gozame-ami technique, thin strips are regularly woven around the vertical ribs. Both types have an inner bottom finished in the ikada-bottom style. In the one-handle type, a single bamboo handle runs straight through the center of the basket. The basket body and the handle are secured with bamboo nails and firmly bound with Tsudura-fuji vines. This is the no-handle type.Use it as a cutlery holder for chopsticks and spoons, or arrange small spice jars inside. This is the one-handle type.It works well for holding a cruet set, or as a pen and pencil holder for stationery.
With its ample length, it can store most standard cutlery. It is also enjoyable to see how the impression changes depending on whether it has a handle or not.
Fill it with cutlery for everyday use at the table, or use it for serving sweets, or keeping your favorite tea bags.
Over daily use, it will gradually turn amber, a change to be enjoyed. Even just looking at it, the basket has a lovable charm.
Please check the sizes carefully and choose your preferred type.
Please note that the color of green bamboo may vary depending on when it was harvested and the condition of the material. Some pieces may have a deeper green tone, while others may appear lighter or slightly yellowish. We kindly ask for your understanding that returns cannot be accepted for this reason.
