Here we introduce two sizes of basket bags, “S” and “L.”






The basket is handmade by Marian,
who lives in Podkarpackie in southeastern Poland,
a region that borders Ukraine to the east and Slovakia to the south.






Willow branches come with bark in many shades, but for this basket the bark has been carefully stripped away.


The weaving is done with these prepared “peeled willows.”


Each basket is woven carefully, strip by strip, using wooden molds that match its shape.












The peeled willow used here has a light orange-brown color, giving the basket a bright and refreshing look.


The willow branches are boiled in a large kettle to soften them, and once the outer bark is removed, smooth reddish-brown rods appear.


Both the uprights and the weavers are made of willow. Looking closely, you can see each strip has its own character. While the willow is flexible, the finished basket is firm and sturdy.


At times, as shown in the photos, you may notice cracks or dents in the strips, but please understand these are natural features of the material and not defects.


Here is the rim. The vertical willow strips are wrapped around a core to finish it.


The rim feels smooth to the touch.

Here is the joint between the handle and the rim.


The handles are movable.


They are made by wrapping willow strips tightly around a core.


Here is the bottom of the basket.


The diagonal lines of the vertical rods along the sides are beautiful and distinctive.


The handles open outward to about this angle, and can also fold inward flat.


Now for the sizes. This is the S size.




Here is how it looks when held in the hand.


It sits easily on the lap, making it a good size for outings like train rides or the theater.


It holds a wallet, keys, pouch, phone, and even a paperback book.


It can also be carried from the elbow.


This is the L size.






It may suit longer trips or overnight travel by car or train.


At the same time, its sturdy build makes it good for shopping as well.




The L size also works well as a storage basket—for magazines, slippers, or children’s toys.
