Here we introduce two sizes of floor-standing baskets with handles on both sides, “M” and “L.”
The basket is handmade by Marian, who lives in Podkarpackie in southeastern Poland, a region that borders Ukraine to the east and Slovakia to the south.
Willow branches come with bark in many shades, but for this basket the bark has been carefully stripped away. The weaving is done with these prepared “peeled willows.”Each basket is woven carefully, strip by strip, using wooden molds that match its shape. The peeled willow here has a light, orange-brown color, giving the basket a bright and refreshing look. The branches are boiled in a large kettle to soften them, and once the outer bark is removed, smooth reddish-brown rods appear. Both the uprights and the weavers are made of willow. Looking closely, you will notice each strip has its own character. While the willow is flexible, the finished basket is firm and sturdy. In some places you can see the cut ends of the branches. As shown in the photos, you may also notice thin peeling on the surface of the strips, slight warping, cracks, or dents. These are natural characteristics of the material and not defects. Here is the rim. Here is the joint between the handle and the rim.On the handles, you may see cracks on the surface of the strips,or on the bottom as well, cracks in the strips may appear. These, too, are natural characteristics of the material, arising in the making process. Please understand this in advance. The bottom is also woven of willow and has sufficient strength. From the base upward, the basket gently widens, forming a large container that holds many belongings. Now, let us look at the sizes. This is the M size.As a laundry basket, it can hold clothing and towels for about two to three people. This is the L size.As a laundry basket, it can hold clothing and towels for about three to four people.
The material is carefully prepared, but please take care not to catch your hands or fabrics on the strips.
When placing towels or clothing inside, it is a good idea to lay a cloth lining to prevent snagging.
Use it as a laundry basket, or for blankets, cushions, or as a place to keep belongings. The basket itself can also be enjoyed as interior décor.
Please choose the size that best suits you.
