Accessory basket -Diamond- S, L / White bamboo / Kagawa-JPN 250703 香川県/白竹 菱目小物入れ 小・大 2サイズ
In Kagawa Prefecture on the island of Shikoku, everyday life unfolds within a rich natural landscape—stretching from the calm Seto Inland Sea in the north, across the Sanuki Plain, and on to the Sanuki Mountains in the south.
Within this environment, bamboo crafts and the making of mi (traditional winnowing baskets) have long been practiced. Even today, there are craftspeople here who continue to devote themselves to bamboo work as their livelihood, patiently refining their skills day by day.
This is a small white bamboo container made by the same craftsperson.
It is available in two sizes: small and large.
White bamboo refers to madake bamboo that is processed while still green, then boiled and sun-dried to remove excess oils and moisture, gently lightening its natural color.
Through this process, the risk of insect damage is reduced, the bamboo tightens and becomes firmer as a material, and variations in color are minimized, resulting in an even, well-balanced surface tone.
Using this white bamboo, it is finished in hishime-ami (diamond weave), a technique that creates a pattern of diamond-shaped openings. The beauty of the white bamboo skin and the crisp, well-defined weave can be fully appreciated. The rim of the basket is finished by wrapping white bamboo all the way around, then securing it at regular intervals with rattan binding. This is the underside of the basket. Crossed reinforcing bamboo strips (chikara-dake) are set into the base to strengthen the bottom. The darker brown sections of the strips are natural bamboo nodes. These nodes are intentionally positioned on the underside, so that when the basket is viewed from the side, its appearance remains clean and well balanced. However, the two bamboo nodes that would otherwise fall at the sharply angled corners are positioned on the sides rather than the base, to prevent them from breaking. This thoughtful construction reflects careful consideration of the nature of bamboo nodes, which can snap easily, and shows the maker’s intention to ensure the basket remains durable over time. This is the inside of the basket, showing the four corners. They are neatly and carefully finished.Below, we introduce the basket in each size. This is the small size.リビングのカウンターや寝室のベッドサイドなどで、小物をまとめて入れておいたり、It can also be used as a basket for storing cups or glasses. The open weave of the basket and the vessels inside complement each other, creating a clean and balanced impression. It is also a convenient size for gathering bottles such as lotions, body creams, or oils. This is the large size.It works well around the kitchen for storing seasonings, favorite foods, or dried ingredients. It can also be used to organize towels or clothing. The inside of the basket is also carefully finished, with the bamboo strips neatly treated so there is little concern about catching or snagging.
A small container with a clean, refined appearance.
The spacing of the weave is well balanced—not too open, not too tight—gently concealing the contents inside.
When empty, the shadows cast by the woven pattern as light passes through create a quietly soothing presence. We hope you enjoy the many expressions this basket reveals.
