<p>This is a handbag with a lid made of cattails native to Poland.</p>

<p>Today, Hiruzen in Okayama Prefecture is the only place in Japan where cattail crafts are made, but it is rare to see almost same materials used in both places.</p>
<p>Cattail basket weaving can be found in Central and Eastern Europe: Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Croatia, and Romania, etc.</p>

<p>The cattails have thick, multi-layered stalks.<br>The outer layer of the stalk is peeled off and the center of the cattail is used for the basket.</p>
<p>After drying, they are cut into appropriate lengths and woven using a wooden form.</p>
