This is a basket with a lid made from palm leaves.
Three sizes are available: S, M, and L.






Rounded and gently squared, this basket is made of soft material.




The body of the basket is woven using palm leaves as they are. This cream color is natural.


The glossy sheen of the leaves can also be seen.


And here is the lid. The “Insert” type is made of two different widths of strips (natural and black), woven in overlapping layers. The black is made of palm leaves dyed with a chemical dye.


The lid can be closed by placing it over the body basket. The height of the body can be adjusted due to the rather tight fit of the lid and body.


Separate use of the lid and the body would also be a good idea.


If the lid is closed too tightly and too deeply, it will be difficult to open later, so it is best to close it lightly in the middle.


This is the underside of the bottom of the basket. The basket itself is soft and has no reinforcement to support the bottom, making it unsuitable for carrying heavy objects (which may cause damage).


When holding the basket with items inside, handle it by supporting the bottom with both hands.


You may find these marks on the basket. These marks are made during the production process and are not a problem when using the product. Please note that it is not considered a defective product.


Occasionally, the top overlapping strips of the basket may peel away from the edge of the basket. If this bothers you, please cut off the strips at the top of the basket as you would a frayed thread of clothing. Please note that this is not a defective product.

traditionally made in the region of Chettinad in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu.


The local people have revived the once nearly extinct techniques through the activities of a non-profit organization, 
and the income from the products now provides an additional source of income for the women engaged in farming.


The Kottan series is an original design by Suno & Morrison, a Japanese designer.


The baskets are created in collaboration with the makers, including the size of the baskets, 
weaving method, and color scheme.
