These are “Drop lid” made of Sawara, which are useful when making simmered dishes.
The standing tree looks similar to Hinoki(Japanese Cypress), but as a wood it is softer, easier to handle, lighter, and more water-resistant than Hinoki.
Sawara absorbs moisture moderately and has a weaker aroma than Hinoki. It is also well matched with food, and is familiar as a material for “Ohitsu(cooked rice container)” and “Sushi tub”.
The Drop lid made of that Sawara is excellent for retaining the heat of the cooking food and heating it evenly with its weight.
There are 8 sizes available, from a minimum diameter of 13cm (5.12″) to a maximum of 26cm (10.24″). Please check the size of your pots and choose the size that is just right for you.

Please purchase a Drop lid that is one size smaller than the diameter of the pot you wish to use it with. This example shows a 21cm (8.27″) pot with a Drop lid 18cm (7.09″).
*A Drop lid of 20cm (7.87″) can just barely be inserted, but the wood may expand and become stuck, so a slightly smaller size is used.
On a separate page, we also offer a “Drop lid with holes”. Click here to see the other page.
To avoid absorbing the smell of fish or other foodstuffs, moisten the entire lid with water before use.
You can use it not only as a Drop lid, but also as a lid for a pot of the same diameter.
Please choose the size you prefer.

It is a circular plate with a handle.Wooden Sawara do not conduct heat well, so you can touch the handles with bare hands while cooking. The handles are inserted into the plate.Sawara is a highly durable material with well-aligned wood grain. The lid is about 1cm (0.39″) thick. The lid has a good weight without crushing the food. There is a 0.2cm (0.79″) difference in diameter between the top and bottom of the lid, and the sides are slightly tapered. On the back of the lid, there is a small hole created by the process of cutting the wood into a round shape, but this is normal and does not pose a problem for use.Small scratches and chips as pictured, dents and splinters may be found, but neither is defective. Please understand this beforehand. The cooking liquid hits the lid and is distributed throughout, allowing the food to be cooked in less liquid.
