This is a Shimekazari called “Halo”.

In Buddhism, a halo is a light said to be emitted from the bodies of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas.
The rings and radial lines on the back of images of Amida Nyorai statue and Senju Kannon statue,
for example, represent a halo.

This kind of light expression is not limited to Buddhist statues,
and is also used in Christian paintings to symbolize the holiness and glory of the figures,
for example, using plate-like shapes, rays of light, or wisps of light.

In Japan, the term “halo” is also used to refer to the radiant sunlight that shines through the gaps in the clouds.
The gentle light that shines through the thick clouds in the dim light after the rain feels almost divine.

We would like to introduce a hanging decoration that wishes for peaceful and calm days without natural disasters.

Shimekazari are decorations made from rice straw that are displayed inside and outside the house in preparation for welcoming the New Year’s deity, “Toshigami-sama”.

The Shimekazari introduced here is made using rice straw harvested in the southern part of Nagano Prefecture and is made locally.

The makers are involved in every step of the process, from growing the rice straw to harvesting and making the decorations.

Rice straw, also called “green harvest”, harvested before the rice has ripened.

Rice harvesting takes place in the peak of the summer heat, from July to August.

This is a video of the rice straw harvest. Please take a look.

This Shimekazari is made from high-quality rice straw that is also used to make the ring for Sumo wrestling.
The soft green rice straw is carefully woven into a pattern.

It is rather small, and you can hold them in the palms of your hands.

For the front door, living room walls, kitchen, bathroom, etc.
Its clean lines seem to fill the space they are displayed in with a refreshing atmosphere.

It will also look comfortable in small spaces as pillars and window frames.
We also recommend that you display it and enjoy it throughout the year, even after New Year’s Day.

In order to keep the Shimekazari in good condition,
please do not leave it in the cardboard box after it arrives, but open it and take it out immediately.

If you do not display it immediately after taking it out of the box,
please store it in a cool place that is not exposed to direct sunlight.

After use, you can either take it to the shrine’s collection point or dispose of it as burnable waste.
If you dispose of it as burnable waste, please make sure to follow the waste classification rules of your local government.

A small ornament that can fit in the palm of your hand,
but it evokes a magnificent scene, like nature or the universe.

The rays of sunlight that shine through the gaps in the thick clouds have a mysterious power that naturally calms the heart
and makes you feel that good things are surely waiting ahead.

I hope that next year will be a peaceful and hopeful year.
