If there is a change in shipping costs, we will notify you of the change
in the order confirmation email (separate from the automatic email) sent from our store.

This is a Shimekazari called “Tama”.
It is a decoration consisting of a ring that resembles a ball(Tama) and a hanging straw decoration,
and is often hung in the entrance hall.

There are five sizes available: XS,S,M,L,XL
When purchasing, please check the outside measurements at the top of the page carefully.

Shimekazari are decorations made from rice straw that are displayed inside and outside the house in preparation for welcoming the New Year’s deity, “Toshigami-sama”.

The Shimekazari introduced here is mainly made in Edogawa Ward, Tokyo, and uses rice straw harvested in Tsukuba City, Ibaraki Pref., and the Narita area of Chiba Pref.

Rice straw, also called “green harvest”, harvested before the rice has ripened.

Rice straw harvesting takes place in the peak of the summer heat, around August.

Since it is too hot to work during the day, they start early in the morning while it is still cool, and then dry the harvested rice straw well over time and store it in a cool, dark place.

The harvested rice straw was piled up in a warehouse with air conditioning and was waiting for its turn to be used.
Just looking at the material of rice straw, you can feel something like life, strength and momentum.

The one we will introduce here is a powerful and well-made rope Shimekazari.

Please check the video here for how to attach the Gohei.

This is a sturdy, energetic Shimekazari.

In addition to the gohei, they are sometimes decorated with other items
such as “Yuzuriha leaves”, “Urajiro leaves”, and “Daidai(bitter orange)”.

*Please note that we do not have the “Yuzuriha leaves”, “Urajiro leaves”, or “Daidai (bitter orange)” ornaments available.
In Japan, they are sold at flower shops at the end of the year, so please purchase them there.

In order to keep the Shimekazari in good condition,
please do not leave it in the cardboard box after it arrives, but open it and take it out immediately.

If you do not display it immediately after taking it out of the box,
please store it in a cool place that is not exposed to direct sunlight.

After use, you can either take it to the shrine’s collection point or dispose of it as burnable waste.
If you dispose of it as burnable waste, please make sure to follow the waste classification rules of your local government.

For the large and extra-large versions of this “Tama”, due to their large size,
we will charge a shipping fee of 3,600 to 4,000 yen (6,000 yen for Okinawa) including tax,
rather than the standard shipping fee, depending on the region.
When you place your order, the standard shipping fee will be displayed, but we will recalculate it and contact you later.

For use as a door decoration. For indoor and outdoor doors and fittings.
Also beautiful when displayed on a wall. Please choose the size you prefer.
