This basket, made from green bamboo and Chinese moonseed vine, is characterized by its softly rounded form. We introduce it here in two sizes: small and large. The same shape in a mini size, Hand Basket Mini (220603-1), is introduced on another page.
Green bamboo refers to Madake bamboo freshly cut while still retaining its natural green color. This basket is woven with strips of green bamboo whose outer skin has been shaved thin.
By shaving the outer skin, the hard enamel-like layer is removed, giving the surface a softer appearance. It also adds a natural sheen, enhancing its beauty. Another characteristic is the way it gradually changes over time, turning evenly into a warm amber color.
The rim and handle are fastened with Chinese moonseed vine, adding an accent to the basket.
From the base it gently widens toward the opening, a curve that is said to be quite difficult to achieve.Every part of the basket feels smooth to the touch—so much so that one might forget bamboo can sometimes splinter. This is the small size. This is the medium size.
Seen from the side, its rounded form gives it a warm charm. While Mr. Kiriyama’s baskets often convey a solid impression from the hardness of green bamboo, there are also pieces like this that draw gentle curves.
For use as a storage basket around the living room or for keeping pantry items. And of course, it can accompany you on outings—perfect for carrying a lunch.
With daily use, it will gradually turn amber, a change to enjoy over time. Even just looking at it, the basket has a lovable charm that brings enjoyment.
Please check the sizes carefully and choose the one that suits you.
Please note that the color of green bamboo may vary depending on when it was harvested and the condition of the material. Some pieces may have a deeper green tone, while others may appear lighter or slightly yellowish. We kindly ask for your understanding that returns cannot be accepted for this reason.
About the Bamboo Baskets by Hiromi Kiriyama
Each basket begins with carefully selected Green Bamboo or Tsudura-fuji vines. From harvesting and preparing the materials to weaving the basket itself, every step is approached with attentiveness and precision.
Mr. Kiriyama creates baskets with a clear sense of proportion and balance, while always considering how the piece will fit naturally into everyday life.
These finely crafted baskets, made from polished Green Bamboo and Tsudura-fuji, combine a quiet strength with refined design.
Their finish reflects the high level of skill unique to his workshop. The variety of sizes and shapes has also evolved by listening to the voices of those who use them.
One of the pleasures of these baskets is watching their fresh green gradually deepen into a warm amber hue over time.
Beyond their exceptional quality, each piece is designed to be practical. They are baskets meant to accompany daily life for many years to come.
