This lidded basket is woven with strips of green bamboo. The basket itself is finished with bamboo and Chinese moonseed vine, and belongs to the Garden Basket series. On this page, we introduce the lidded Garden Basket in two sizes: small and medium.
Green bamboo refers to Madake bamboo freshly cut while still retaining its natural green color. This basket is woven with strips of green bamboo whose outer skin has been shaved thin. By shaving the outer skin, the hard enamel-like layer is removed, giving the surface a softer appearance. It also adds a natural sheen, enhancing its beauty. Another characteristic is the way it gradually changes over time, turning evenly into a warm amber color.
The rim and handle are secured with Chinese moonseed vine, adding an accent to the finish.
Here is the basket with the lid removed. Even the body alone can be used well on its own. This is the lid. Even by itself, it works perfectly as a basket.Reinforcing strips of bamboo are firmly set even in the shallow lid basket. This is the small size. This is the medium size.
This type of garden basket was originally created at the request of people doing garden work. Within the series, it is relatively small and easy to handle. For that reason, it also works well as a lidded basket for outings.
You may also separate the two baskets and use them in different places. The body can serve as a handbag or shopping basket, while the lid can be used in the kitchen as an organizing basket.
Here is the small size with the lid removed. This is the lid of the small size by itself. Here is the medium size with the lid removed. This is the lid of the medium size by itself.
As its name suggests, the lidded Garden Basket is truly delightful for outings— packing lunches and drinks for the garden or a park.
The small size seems to hold lunch for one to two people; the lid can be used for plating or sharing. The medium size appears to hold lunch and drinks for two to four people, and the lid works well as a tray.
Having the lid creates many scenes of use— take both out together, or use them separately in different places.
Indoors, it also becomes an interior piece that doubles as storage. The lid also seems lovely for serving fruit or sweets.
I hope it will accompany your daily life. Please check the sizes carefully and choose the one you prefer.
Please note that the color of green bamboo may vary depending on when it was harvested and the condition of the material. Some pieces may have a deeper green tone, while others may appear lighter or slightly yellowish. We kindly ask for your understanding that returns cannot be accepted for this reason.
About the Bamboo Baskets by Hiromi Kiriyama
Each basket begins with carefully selected Green Bamboo or Tsudura-fuji vines. From harvesting and preparing the materials to weaving the basket itself, every step is approached with attentiveness and precision.
Mr. Kiriyama creates baskets with a clear sense of proportion and balance, while always considering how the piece will fit naturally into everyday life.
These finely crafted baskets, made from polished Green Bamboo and Tsudura-fuji, combine a quiet strength with refined design.
Their finish reflects the high level of skill unique to his workshop. The variety of sizes and shapes has also evolved by listening to the voices of those who use them.
One of the pleasures of these baskets is watching their fresh green gradually deepen into a warm amber hue over time.
Beyond their exceptional quality, each piece is designed to be practical. They are baskets meant to accompany daily life for many years to come.
