This is a large, horizontally long basket made from green bamboo and Chinese moonseed vines.
It is one of the Garden Basket series, and on this page we introduce the wide-shaped “Garden Basket Long.”
Green bamboo refers to Madake bamboo freshly cut while still retaining its natural green color. This basket is woven with strips of green bamboo whose outer skin has been shaved thin. By shaving, the hard enamel-like outer surface is removed, giving the bamboo a softer look and a glossy, enhanced beauty.
Over time, it gradually changes into a warm amber color, evenly and beautifully.
The rim and handle are bound with Chinese moonseed vines, adding an accent to the finish.
The entire basket is woven carefully and firmly. Its smoothness makes you forget that bamboo is usually a material that can splinter.Seen from above, the refined finish is clear. Even with its thick rim, the bamboo nodes are neatly aligned. The opening and the base are horizontally long with rounded corners. The base is finished in ikada-base, strong and designed to keep the contents from spilling.Looking at the underside, you can see reinforcing bamboo firmly inserted, making the basket sturdy as well.
The Garden Basket series was created at the request of gardeners who wished to carry both their tools and lunch in one basket.
This one is about 21.65″ wide, making it a long size. It can carry longer tools laid flat.
Of course, it is not limited to gardening— it can be used as a shopping basket, or as a bag for outings and travel to carry many belongings.
A large, horizontally long, and unique basket. Please check the size carefully and choose the one that suits you.
Please note that the color of green bamboo may vary depending on when it was harvested and the condition of the material. Some pieces may have a deeper green tone, while others may appear lighter or slightly yellowish. We kindly ask for your understanding that returns cannot be accepted for this reason.
About the Bamboo Baskets by Hiromi Kiriyama
Each basket begins with carefully selected Green Bamboo or Tsudura-fuji vines. From harvesting and preparing the materials to weaving the basket itself, every step is approached with attentiveness and precision.
Mr. Kiriyama creates baskets with a clear sense of proportion and balance, while always considering how the piece will fit naturally into everyday life.
These finely crafted baskets, made from polished Green Bamboo and Tsudura-fuji, combine a quiet strength with refined design.
Their finish reflects the high level of skill unique to his workshop. The variety of sizes and shapes has also evolved by listening to the voices of those who use them.
One of the pleasures of these baskets is watching their fresh green gradually deepen into a warm amber hue over time.
Beyond their exceptional quality, each piece is designed to be practical. They are baskets meant to accompany daily life for many years to come.
