This series of table baskets is made from green bamboo and Chinese moonseed vines. On this page, we introduce the round type in five sizes: micro, extra small, small, medium, and large.
Green bamboo refers to Madake bamboo freshly cut while still retaining its natural green color. This basket is woven with strips of green bamboo whose outer skin has been shaved thin. By shaving, the hard enamel-like outer surface is removed, giving the bamboo a softer look and a glossy, enhanced beauty.
Over time, it gradually changes into a warm amber color, evenly and beautifully.
In this table basket series, the moonseed vines fixed at equal intervals along the rim serve as an accent. These vines are an essential element of the basket, important both decoratively and functionally.
The entire basket is woven carefully and firmly. It is made with the gozame-ami technique, in which thin strips are regularly woven around the vertical ribs. The base is finished in yotsume-ami, a weave that forms square openings. Woven strongly with thick, wide strips, the weave is solid and will not shift. The vulnerable corners are reinforced with braces, which also serve as four small legs. Now, let us introduce each size. Here is the micro size.It is just right for small items such as keys or lip balm. You can also enjoy using it like a small plate, for serving traditional sweets. Here is the extra small size. Here is the small size.Place a small plate and cup on it, and enjoy teatime. It is also suitable for holding a set for evening drinks. Here is the medium size. The medium size becomes fairly large. It is useful for ripening fruit, or as a basket for storing vegetables. Here is the large size, the biggest of the five.It is reliable even as a dish basket. After washing dishes, wipe them lightly with a cloth and place them here to dry a little more. It is also useful for keeping everyday bowls and plates ready at hand.
As the name “table basket” suggests, it can be placed on the dining table or counter to hold ingredients, tea sets, or meals.
From the largest to the smallest micro size, each is crafted with the same care, without compromise.
Luxuriously offered in five sizes—each one is truly unique.
They are perfect as fruit or confectionery baskets. From the small size upward, they can also hold cups or bowls upside down.
With leaves or wooden sheets, you can also serve rice balls, sandwiches, or grilled fish.
From the micro to the large size, please choose the one that best suits you.
Please note that the color of green bamboo may vary depending on when it was harvested and the condition of the material. Some pieces may have a deeper green tone, while others may appear lighter or slightly yellowish. We kindly ask for your understanding that returns cannot be accepted for this reason.
About the Bamboo Baskets by Hiromi Kiriyama
Each basket begins with carefully selected Green Bamboo or Tsudura-fuji vines. From harvesting and preparing the materials to weaving the basket itself, every step is approached with attentiveness and precision.
Mr. Kiriyama creates baskets with a clear sense of proportion and balance, while always considering how the piece will fit naturally into everyday life.
These finely crafted baskets, made from polished Green Bamboo and Tsudura-fuji, combine a quiet strength with refined design.
Their finish reflects the high level of skill unique to his workshop. The variety of sizes and shapes has also evolved by listening to the voices of those who use them.
One of the pleasures of these baskets is watching their fresh green gradually deepen into a warm amber hue over time.
Beyond their exceptional quality, each piece is designed to be practical. They are baskets meant to accompany daily life for many years to come.
