As Black Bamboo is a natural material, each piece varies in color, pattern, and the position of its nodes.

You cannot choose the depth of the black color, the amount of brown coloring, mottled patterns, or the position of the nodes.

Please be aware of these natural variations.

As shown on the product page, there may also be scratches, scuffs, or lines on the outer surface,
cracks or splits around the nodes, or areas where the outer surface has peeled away.

These are characteristics of the natural material and are not defects.
Please understand these characteristics of the material before placing your order.

8) Returns and Exchanges

Please carefully check the length and diameter of the Black Bamboo before placing your order.

We are unable to accept changes, returns, or exchanges after an order has been placed due to customer circumstances,
including selecting the wrong length or diameter.

On this page, we introduce Black Bamboo (Kurochiku).

It is available in three lengths—2 m (78.74″), 3 m (118.11″), and 4 m (157.48″)—and you can also choose the diameter for each length.

When placing your order, please carefully check your preferred length and diameter.

After being straightened, the Black Bamboo has a beautiful luster on its outer surface.

The shades and patterns of dark brown to black vary from piece to piece, giving each one a rich and distinctive appearance.

The available lengths of Black Bamboo vary depending on the diameter.

Longer pieces of thinner Black Bamboo are more limited in availability,
but lengths of up to 3 m (118.11″) are available for diameters of approximately 18 mm (0.71″) or more,
and up to 4 m (157.48″) for diameters of approximately 24 mm (0.94″) or more.

On the other hand, thicker Black Bamboo can also be prepared by cutting longer pieces to the required length.

For this reason, the available lengths vary depending on the diameter.
Please be aware that this is a characteristic of Black Bamboo as a natural material.

We have put together a video showing how Black Bamboo is processed into a finished product. Please take a look.
[Music will play]

On this page, we introduce Black Bamboo in three lengths: 2 m (78.74″), 3 m (118.11″), and 4 m (157.48″).
These lengths are mainly used by professionals working in gardens and landscaping.

As all of these are very long pieces, please carefully check the size before placing your order.

[2 m (78.74″)]

Suitable for a wide range of uses, including supports for trees and vegetables,
noren curtain rods, bamboo fences, interior decoration, and DIY projects.

For making bamboo fences, we recommend a diameter of approximately 18 mm (0.71″) or more,
as these thicker pieces are less likely to taper toward the tip.
If some of the bamboo pieces taper toward the tip,
you can adjust the gaps by arranging them with the direction of the bamboo alternating from one piece to the next.

[3 m (118.11″)]

Suitable for tall supports and bamboo fences, as well as walls, partitions, and displays in shops and homes,
when you need a certain amount of length from a single piece.

It can be used not only vertically, but also horizontally across a space.

[4 m (157.48″)]

Suitable for projects that require long pieces,
including bamboo fences, interior and exterior work for shops and facilities, large displays, and event decorations.

It can also be cut to the length you need, making it a good choice when you have not yet decided how you will use it
or when you would like some extra length for processing.

We also accept requests to cut Black Bamboo to lengths other than those listed on this page.
If you would like a custom length, please contact us through our custom order page.

[For Those Considering Black Bamboo as Material for Baskets and Other Bamboo Crafts]

Black Bamboo can also be used as material for making baskets, strainers, and other bamboo crafts.
If you would like to order a larger quantity for use as material, please feel free to contact us.

However, among the Black Bamboo currently available,
there are only a limited number of thicker pieces or pieces with long distances between the nodes.
Most have approximately 20 cm (7.87″) between the nodes.
For this reason, it is difficult to prepare a larger quantity with specific requirements for diameter and the distance between nodes.

The depth of the black color, the amount of brown coloring, and the patterns also vary from piece to piece,
so we are unable to prepare multiple pieces with matching colors.

When ordering Black Bamboo as material for making baskets, strainers, or other bamboo crafts,
please be sure to mention this in the notes section when placing your order.

If you would like to discuss the intended use, diameter, length, quantity, or other details in advance,
please contact us by phone or through our Black Bamboo custom order page.

We will let you know what we can offer from the Black Bamboo currently available, based on your request.

As Black Bamboo is a natural material, each piece varies in color and pattern.
You cannot choose the depth of the black color, the amount of brown coloring, or mottled patterns.

As bamboo gradually becomes thinner from the base toward the tip,
the variation in diameter within a single piece is more noticeable in longer pieces.

Please be aware that these are all characteristics of a natural material.

Please check the sizes and choose your preferred length and diameter.

Black Bamboo will be delivered packaged as shown here.

*Please note that this item cannot be delivered to residential addresses.
Delivery is available only to businesses, such as companies, stores, and other business locations.

When placing your order, please be sure to enter a company name, store name, business name,
or similar information for the delivery address.

If only an individual’s name is entered for the delivery address, we will be unable to ship the order.
In this case, we will cancel the order.

We will notify you by email when the order is canceled.

Black Bamboo Passed Down in Wakayama

In Wakayama, Black Bamboo has been valued as a local specialty for more than 100 years, since the Meiji period.

Preparing Black Bamboo for use as a material involves many steps.
The process begins with going into the mountains to select, harvest, and transport the bamboo,
followed by removing the branches and branch stubs, cutting the bamboo to the required length,
removing the oil using heat, and straightening any bends.

The way the flame is applied and the heating time are adjusted according to the condition of each piece of bamboo,
and the bamboo is straightened while it is still soft.

This work has been passed down through many years of accumulated experience and skill.

However, today, there are very few craftspeople who specialize in processing Black Bamboo.

In recent years, Hachiku bamboo, which belongs to the same group as Black Bamboo,
has been flowering and dying off in many parts of Japan, and Black Bamboo has also been affected.

Under these circumstances, efforts are also underway to plant and grow new Black Bamboo on abandoned farmland,
so that Black Bamboo can be passed on to future generations.

The Black Bamboo introduced here is shipped directly from a bamboo supplier in Wakayama
that has handled Black Bamboo for more than 100 years and continues to carry on the techniques used to process it.

Today, many Black Bamboo products are imported,
and Japanese Black Bamboo has become more difficult to obtain than it once was.

We hope you will find a place in your everyday life for this Japanese Black Bamboo, carefully finished piece by piece.

so that Black Bamboo can be passed on to future generations.

You can read about our visit to Wakayama here.
